Work with me:
The consultation process
How long will the nutritional therapy process take?
Depending on the individual, this may be a quicker health journey, for example bloating with one identifiable cause. For women with bloating in their 30s to 50s I offer a 6 week program. For others it may take longer to unravel complex, multifactorial cause IBS or other gut health conditions. In this case, a 12 week program is the minimum in order to see results and support you through the different stages of your IBS/ gut health protocol. Your health status, symptom severity, lifestyle/ behaviour change goals, number of root causes (often many), how quickly you react/ improve to the interventions and whether laboratory testing is involved, need to be taken into account. Therefore 12 weeks is recommended.
A free 15 minute telephone conversation is offered to discuss your gut health briefly and if this is right for you, your goals, any questions you have and to arrange an appointment. Click the button below to arrange.
In preparation prior to the first consultation I will send you some documentation to sign, a 3 or 7 day food diary and a health questionnaire to complete. This is so I can assess your health prior to the consultation, prepare and tailor your consultation and will save a lot of time during the appointment. We can then focus on the plan and the details.
Initial consultation: 90 minutes
Second consultation at week 4: 60 minutes
Third consultation at week 8: 45 minutes
Fourth consultation at week 12: 30 - 45 minutes
Weekly email or phone support (max 30 mins each) between if needed.
Total = up to 8 hours of in person support plus at least 4 hours of background research/paperwork, over 12 weeks
Included in the fees; before and between consultations:
Before initial consultation:
• Review of the diet diary and interpretation of health questionnaire so I can prepare your first personalised IBS protocol. If I feel after discussions in the first appointment, this protocol needs tweaking, I can adjust it accordingly afterwards and send to you soon after.
Between consultations:
• A functional medicine matrix is mapped
• Time taken to research any extra evidence based literature
• Educational materials
• Medication/ supplement interaction and safety checks
• Time searching for the most appropriate supplements and testing in accordance to your budget
• Finalising the most effective personalised dietary and lifestyle program for YOU.
• Further recommendation protocols after second and third consultations.
• Creating handouts to explain certain advice for you to take away.
• Correspondence/ letter written to GP or other medical practitioner if necessary
• Arranging functional testing
• Assessing previous and new lab test results
• Ordering supplements for you from safe, reliable companies.
• Recipes to try
• Email support for clients
• If after following the IBS protocol I recommend, symptoms still don't improve significantly, then an alternative diagnosis may need to be investigated. Many IBS symptoms overlap with many other conditions: bile acid diarrhoea/ malabsorption, SIBO, histamine intolerance, coeliac disease, food sensitivities/ allergies, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and so on. I can write to your GP to explain we have ruled out IBS and more GP/ private testing may be needed to understand and resolve symptoms.
I prefer to see clients face to face each month at my clinic space 'Reset' in central Hereford. I can also offer online Microsoft Teams consultations. The fees are required before the first consultation and we can pre-book all your appointments for the 6 or 12 week programme to secure dates and times in the diary. Fees can be paid via bank transfer. See page on fees and extras for supplements and testing.
